– Re-use! Look for classic items which can be re-purposed for different occasions, particularly in terms of a work wardrobe. In the world of publishing a day could include author-agent meetings, scrambling around a book festival or shop, a posh press event or storming through emails (or all of the above). We need to be prepared for anything. This rule also applies to kitchen products. That grapefruit spoon is not going to be super helpful all the time, even if it looks cute.

– Invest in good quality when you do buy something- choose easy-travel fabric blends for clothes and nice stationary. Both will make you feel swish and last longer than a cheap 20 pack of biros which all break one after the other and get ink everywhere.

– Holding on to things leaves no room for the new stuff- this applies to thoughts as well as possessions! Make a habit of letting go of things as well as acquiring new things. There are plenty of good homes for your unwanted items.

– Minimalism will always vary! Don’t compare yourself to other people; one person’s idea of a messy desk is another person’s idea of a tidy desk…
